Insurance & Payment for San Diego Midwifery
Thinking about birth often brings a very practical question alongside the hopes and plans: how will we pay for the care we want?
You deserve to ask that question early and plainly. We can work through the proposed services, the information needed from your plan, and the financial agreement so you understand what you are considering before enrolling.
Your exact plan matters
Coverage depends on the service, clinician, place of service, benefit rules, and any required authorization. An insurer’s name on a card does not confirm coverage for a particular home birth, prenatal visit, fertility procedure, or feeding appointment.
We use the existing Birthstone Midwifery benefits-verification process for inquiries. The form opens under that practice name so your request reaches the established verification workflow.
Start with a benefits review
Use the benefits-verification form to request a review. Before treatment, ask about network status, deductible, coinsurance, out-of-network benefits, authorizations, and exclusions for the proposed service.
Verification describes information available at the time of the check. Payment remains subject to plan terms and claim processing; it is not a guarantee of reimbursement.
Planning for home-birth expenses
Prenatal care, the birth itself, postpartum follow-up, laboratory processing, and outside services may be treated differently by an insurer. Ask for a written explanation of what the practice agreement includes and what may be billed separately.
Home-birth care can involve out-of-pocket expenses even when some appointments are covered. We discuss individualized payment arrangements directly rather than publishing a single price that may not fit your situation.
Fertility, classes, and other services
Do not assume maternity benefits extend to IUI, donor sperm, fertility medication, education, or every feeding visit. Those questions require a separate service-specific review. Our IUI service remains in development.
What to have ready
Prepare your plan name, member information, proposed service, and any authorization questions. Share identifying insurance details only through the designated form or practice process. If you are unsure which service to select, contact us first.
Making the numbers part of a human conversation
You may be balancing a leave from work, childcare, and the cost of preparing for a baby. Tell us which financial questions are most important to settle rather than feeling you need to work everything out alone first.
A useful next step is a written explanation of services and payment responsibilities. It gives you something concrete to consider with your family while the exact benefits are verified.
Questions, answered
Are you in network with my plan?
Ask us to verify the exact clinician, service, and location for your plan. This page does not confirm participation with every insurer.
Does a covered prenatal visit mean my home birth is fully covered?
No. Each part of care may be subject to different benefits and payment terms.
Where can I find pricing?
Request an individualized written explanation of care and payment during your consultation.
Plan-specific starting points
Curative’s provider agreement through Tayna’s Birthstone practice has an October 26, 2026 effective date. Community Health Group contracting and IEHP authorizations require current, service-specific confirmation. Sharing organizations are discussed separately from health insurance.
You can begin with a conversation.
Tell Tayna what brings you here—the care you are hoping for, the questions you are carrying, or simply where you would like to start. We can talk through current availability and what the next step would involve.
