Meet Tayna Chessman, LM, CPM

Before I know your due date, I want to know what brings you here. You may have a clear picture of the care you want. You may be carrying a previous experience you are still making sense of. Or you may simply want to meet the person you would be trusting with this chapter.

I’m Tayna Chessman, a California Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife. My approach begins with listening, then bringing clear information and thoughtful planning to the things that matter to you.

A relationship with room for your real life

Your family, your history, and your path to parenthood shape how care feels. I want you to be able to tell me what helps you feel comfortable, who you want involved, and which conversations are difficult.

You do not have to share a particular identity, belief, family structure, or idea of birth to begin a conversation here. Partners and trusted support people can join when you want them included.

Warmth, with clear answers

Being heard is part of care. So is understanding the next step. I want us to talk about your options in language that makes sense, with room to ask for an explanation again or take time with a decision.

We also discuss the practical responsibilities: the role I would perform, who else would be involved, how follow-up works, and when another clinician or care setting is needed. A personal relationship belongs alongside a clear agreement.

Looking beyond the birth itself

The due date is one moment in a much longer change. Preparing for a baby also means thinking about recovery, feeding, relationships, and the people who can help when you come home.

Whether you are exploring home birth, seeking prenatal care, or asking about another service, we can consider how each part connects. Planned services, including IUI and the birth center, have their own development timelines.

Let’s see whether the fit feels right

A first conversation is a chance for both of us to ask questions. Tell me what you hope to feel in your care and what you would want me to understand about you.

We will discuss current services, availability for your location and timing, credentials, backup arrangements, and the assessment needed before enrollment. You are welcome to explore your options before deciding.
