Samaritan Ministries Midwife Care in San Diego
Perhaps the relationship is what brought you to midwifery: time to talk, familiar faces, and care that makes room for your family. If you are a Samaritan Ministries member, the payment process deserves that same thoughtful preparation.
Begin with the service you are seeking and a written practice estimate, then confirm how your program handles the maternity need. The member’s role in that process is part of the planning.
Our current relationship with Samaritan Ministries
Samaritan Provider Relations replied to Birthstone Midwifery on October 27, 2026. It explained that members may choose their provider and that it currently has no formal preferred-provider program. This is not a contracted-network or endorsed-provider claim.
What to know before relying on sharing
Samaritan’s provider resource explains how members should be billed and how the member pays the provider. Its program guidelines determine which medical needs are eligible for sharing.
Know who pays the practice
Ask the ministry to explain the member’s submission process, then compare that timeline with the practice’s deposit and payment dates. A member-centered payment process may differ from an insurance claim sent directly to a payer. Keep a copy of the signed estimate and every itemized bill so the care agreement and sharing request describe the same services.
Questions to ask Samaritan Ministries
- Which Samaritan program and maternity guidelines apply?
- What information should be included in the maternity need submission?
- When am I responsible for paying my midwife?
- How are prenatal, birth, postpartum, and newborn charges separated?
- What happens to the sharing request if I change providers or need hospital care?
A planning situation worth discussing
If you receive a maternity estimate early in pregnancy, ask Samaritan how it wants an estimate distinguished from a final bill. Later changes should be recorded accurately. Keep the original documents and the explanation of any revised fee rather than replacing the earlier record without context.
Care with Tayna in San Diego County
Start with the care you want, your city, and your timing. Ask about prenatal care, home birth, or postpartum follow-up and request a written explanation of services and payment dates. A sharing organization’s approval does not determine clinical eligibility for home birth, and acceptance into care does not guarantee that a bill will be shared.
Health sharing is not health insurance. Keep a plan for your financial responsibility while eligibility and payment are being reviewed. We can discuss the documentation the practice can provide; the organization makes its own sharing decisions.

Samaritan Ministries — current resources and guidelines
One plan for care, another for the paperwork
You may be organizing documents while also preparing a home and a support circle for your baby. Keep a simple record of the estimate, payment dates, itemized bills, and any changes.
A clear record can make the next conversation easier, especially if the birth plan changes. Samaritan’s own guidelines determine sharing; the practice agreement explains what you owe and when.

A few questions, answered
Does Samaritan Ministries guarantee payment for midwifery care?
No. Health sharing is not insurance, and a provider inquiry or practice agreement does not guarantee sharing. Confirm your current program’s maternity rules and obtain written guidance for the proposed services.
How should I begin planning care with Tayna?
Discuss your city, timing, and intended services in a complimentary 30-minute consultation. Request a written care estimate, then ask Samaritan Ministries which membership rules and documentation apply. Clinical eligibility and sharing eligibility are separate decisions.
